In the coastal community of Barangay Siguel, where diverse cultures and traditions come together, access to safe and inclusive learning spaces remains a challenge for many young people.
To address these, ChildFund Japan, in partnership with the Notre Dame Business Resource Center Foundation, Inc. (NDBRCFI), launches a project “Promoting Peaceful and Inclusive Education through an Improved Learning Environment (Education for Peace in Mindanao).” This project is funded by the Government of Japan under the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects.
This project supports students of Bawing National High School, an ethnically and religiously diverse learning community. Despite the area’s growth, students continue to face challenges such as limited facilities and barriers to sustain participation in education.

Creating Safe and Inclusive Learning Spaces
This project aims to strengthen both the physical environment and the social structure of the school community.
A new one-story, two classrooms building will be constructed to provide a safe, sustainable, and conducive learning environment. A sanitation facility and water station, promoting dignity, health, and comfort for learners will also be constructed.
Essential resources, including chairs, teacher stations, televisions, and electric fans, will also be provided to foster effective learning.

Promoting Peace and Understanding
Beyond infrastructure, the project places a strong emphasis on peace education and social cohesion.
A total of 400 student representatives will participate in sessions on anti-bullying, peacebuilding, and dialogue, leading to the formation of student-led peace clubs. At the same time, 60 teachers will undergo capacity-building workshops to integrate peace and multicultural education into their teaching.
These efforts aim to foster a learning environment that values respect, inclusion, and dialogue.
Investing in a Generation of Peacebuilders
Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals on Quality Education, Reduced Inequalities, and Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, this project goes beyond infrastructure.
It stands as a commitment to empower communities and invests in the well-being of children and families.
By creating safe learning spaces and promoting inclusive values, the project supports a generation of learners who are equipped to contributing to peaceful and resilient communities.
