WHAT WE DO

Sponsorship Program (SP)

Through a one-to-one relationship between a child and a sponsor, the sponsorship program helps give children access to quality education by providing school supplies and other educational needs as well as granting scholarships to deserving children. The program also develops homes and communities to have adequate capabilities and functional systems that uphold children’s rights and ensure their safety.

The primary beneficiaries of this program are children of school age (5-12 years old as intake age until they complete their basic education) and their families from the poorest segments of the population. Secondary beneficiaries include peoples’ organizations organized by the project, schools, local government units, and other families in the sponsored community.

Special Assistance Program (SAP)

Short-term grant-funded projects (1 to 3 years) support ChildFund Japan’s priority program areas and strengthen the impact of SP in the wider community. Activities that train communities on children’s rights, encourage child participation and advocacy, promote water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) efforts, and support disaster risk reduction and management (DRMM) are being conducted. Currently, the program prioritizes projects on child rights and child protection, specifically ending violence against children (EVAC) and online sexual abuse and exploitation of children (OSAEC).

The primary beneficiaries of this program are out-of-school youth, community organizations, school organizations and representatives, local government units and agencies (e.g., Barangay Council for the Protection of Children, Sangguniang Kabataan), and non-government organizations. Children, families, and stakeholders in neighboring communities are secondary beneficiaries. In the past, SAP has implemented the following projects, among many others:

● Nutrition Programs in Camaroli, Bacolod, and Calauit, Palawan
● Health Program for the Badjao community in General Santos
● Non-formal Education for pre-school children and adults
● Building of 8 Day Care facilities and provision in partnership with Lion’s Club
● Basic Needs and Cultural Preservation of the Pala’wan Tribe
● Development of Micro-Enterprise Development Manuals (MEDP)
● Construction of the Primary Health Care Center for the Poor in Negros Island Project
● Infanta Rehabilitation Project after Typhoon Milenyo
