Community Leadership and Empowerment

Meet Joel Allones, a man whose dedication to his community has shaped his life’s journey in remarkable ways. Starting as a tricycle driver and Church leader, Joel earned respect for his ability to inspire others and address community challenges. His leadership skills led to his work with the Local Government Unit (LGU) and recognition as one of the sponsored families of the Lihok Bata Development Center, an implementing partner of ChildFund Japan’s program in Dipolog City. Through this partnership, Joel gained valuable support, which deepened his commitment to improving the lives of families in his community.

While working with the LGU, Joel joined Bidlisiw sa Kalamboan Multipurpose Cooperative, where his leadership quickly stood out. He became Chairperson of the Board from 2010 to 2017, during which time the cooperative registered with the Cooperative Development Authority, secured land for a three-story building, and provided essential resources to local farmers, many of whom were also part of the ChildFund-sponsored families.

After an unsuccessful bid for Barangay Councilor, Joel transitioned to full-time farming, driven by his connection to the land and desire to support his community. Though new to agriculture, his experience in leadership and the foundation he built through ChildFund Japan’s support helped him navigate the challenges. Today, as a farmer and Board Director, Joel continues to lead by example, showing that true leadership is about service and dedication. His journey is a testament to resilience and the lasting impact of programs like ChildFund Japan in empowering communities.
