ChildFund Japan and Educo Philippines will launch a joint emergency response to support children and families affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao on 8 June.
The earthquake caused widespread damage to homes, schools, and public infrastructure, forcing thousands of families to evacuate and disrupting the lives of many children at the start of the new school year.
Following rapid assessments conducted in coordination with local authorities and humanitarian partners, the two organizations will provide food assistance, non-food relief items such as hygiene kits and mother-baby kits, and psychosocial support to approximately severely affected households in General Santos City and neighboring communities.
Special attention will be given to children and other vulnerable groups to help them regain a sense of safety and normalcy as communities begin the process of recovery.
ChildFund Japan and Educo Philippines remain committed to working closely with local communities and partners to ensure timely and effective support reaches those most affected by this disaster.
