97 teachers and peace advocates in General Santos City have strengthened their skills in building safer, more peaceful, and inclusive schools.
On September 7 and 9, the Peace Education Training for Teachers and Peace Advocates was held at Bawing National High School under the theme “Peace Starts Here: Developing Teachers’ and Learners’ Peace Advocacy for Dialogue, Mediation, and Conflict Resolution.”
The interactive training equipped participants with practical skills in peacebuilding, dialogue, negotiation, mediation, conflict resolution, and identifying behavioral and mental health concerns among learners. Sessions were facilitated by Ms. Miraflor J. Dionaldo, RGC, and Ms. Joanne Avbegail V. Apud, RN, of the DepEd Schools Division Office of General Santos City.
A highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) among the project partners, reinforcing their shared commitment to advancing peace education in General Santos City.
The activity is part of the project Promoting Peaceful and Inclusive Education through Improved Learning Environment in Barangay Siguel, General Santos City, funded by the Government of Japan and implemented by ChildFund Japan in partnership with the Notre Dame Business Resource Center Foundation, Inc. (NDBRCFI) and DepEd SDO General Santos City.
With new skills and a stronger network of peace advocates, participating teachers are ready to help make schools safer spaces for dialogue, understanding, and peaceful conflict resolution.
